Fear Not

There are moments in life that cause us to fear. Times in which what is before us or perceived to be, is too much for us to cope with.

Though God has brought us through frightening circumstances in the past, we struggle to believe he will do so in the present.

Perhaps that is why there are so many verses within the Bible that encourage us not to give in to fear.

I’m currently reading a book titled When Faith Is Forbidden written by Todd Nettleton who works for an organization called Voice of the Martyrs.

In his book, Todd wrote the following statement regarding the founder of VOM, “On the day of his arrest, Pastor Richard Wurmbrand (the founder of The Voice of the Martyrs) recalled that the Bible has some variation of the command “Do not be afraid” 366 times-one for every day of the year, even if the year is a leap year.”

I have read Pastor Wurmbrand’s book Tortured For Christ in which he shares the horrendous things that he suffered while being imprisoned for over 14 years, so Todd’s description of Pastor Wurmbrand’s decision to not fear, impacts me deeply.

Having faced some tough circumstances recently, I have felt fear but through prayer and reflecting on Bible scripture I have been able to quench it.

Perhaps you are feeling fearful and if so, I will list some encouraging Bible verses below. I suggest reading the whole chapters in which they are located for context.

Bible Scriptures on Fear

  • Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. (Isaiah 41:10, ESV)

  • Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. (Joshua 1:9, ESV)

  • I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears. (Psalm 34:4)

  • For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. (2 Timothy 1:7, ESV)

  • The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? (Psalm 27:1)

  • Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. (John 14:27)

I have listed only a few of the Bible verses on fear. Search the Bible for others and you’ll discover that there is no reason to be afraid because our God can see us through any circumstances.

You can make it! Don’t give up, and obey the command given by God through many scriptures to not give in to fear.
